Have you talked to your provider about having a Labor Doula? *
I highly recommend having a conversation with your provider and making sure they understand you are hiring a labor doula to be present at your birth.
PURPOSE // This agreement contains the entire understanding between the Doula and the Client. It supersedes all prior agreements between the parties. The only way to add or change this agreement is to do so in writing, signed by both parties. *
DOULA SCOPE OF PRACTICE // A doula accompanies a woman in labor to help ensure a satisfying birth experience by providing physical, emotional, and educational support. A doula works for us, not our care provider or the hospital. A doula does not perform any clinical tasks, such as blood pressure or fetal heart rate monitoring. A doula will help us make decisions by providing information and support, but will make decisions for us, nor will she communicate decisions to the healthcare provider. *
DOULA RESPONSIBILITIES // Our doula will be on call for us 24 hours a day beginning 2 weeks before the guess date and up to 2 weeks after the due date as required. Our doula will provide one prenatal birth planning session in our or her home or other meeting place if you choose, including but not limited to: help building a birth preference list, a review of choices in childbirth, comfort measures and coping methods, risks/benefits of various choices and procedures, and discussion of postpartum adjustment and expectations. Our doula will provide continuous labor support from the time we ask her to come until 1-2 hours after the baby is born. She will come to our house to provide support, or meet us at the hospital, depending on our preference. Our doula will not leave unless we ask her to, and even then will be available by phone. In the event labor exceeds 24 hours, our doula may call in a back-up doula to care for us while she takes a nap. We have the option of meeting back-up doula in advance, if we desire. Our doula will provide one postpartum visit to discuss the birth, provide resources/referrals and answer any questions we might have. *
CLIENT RESPONSIBILITIES // We will participate in childbirth preparation classes of our choice. We will tour our birth facility in advance. We will text or email our doula after prenatal visits to keep her informed. We will contact our doula as soon as we think we might be in labor to keep her informed, even if we do not need support yet. We will contact our doula when we feel we need her, and understand that it may take up to 2 hours for her to reach us. We will discuss our preferences with our doula, and clearly state our choices to her. She will support any choices we make. This is our birth. While everything our doula does is aimed at helping us have the best birth possible for us, that can happen only if we understand all our options, ask questions, and state our choices/preferences both to her and to our HCP. *
RESERVATION DEPOSIT // Upon the Client’s signature and payment confirmation for the Reservation Deposit, the Doula will reserve the time around the Client’s EDD (2 weeks before, 2 weeks after) as the on-call period. The Reservation Deposit is non-refundable, even if the services are cancelled for any reason. The Reservation Deposit is to be paid at the time of signing the contract. The Reservation Deposit is applied towards the contracted Birth Package. *
PAYMENTS // The Client understands and agrees that the entire amount owed for the Birth Package is due on the 37th week of gestation so that the Doula can go on-call on the 38th week of gestation. *
ALERTING THE DOULA // The Client understands and agrees that they have the responsibility of alerting the doula/photographer when labor commences. Should the client not alert the doula in time and the doula misses the birth, no refund shall be given. Good communication is essential so that the doula can aim to arrive when active labor starts and stay until the birth occurs. *
BACK UP DOULA // The Client understands that the Doula has a network of backup doulas that will be activated should the Doula be incapacitated to be present at the time of birth due to illness, unexpected emergencies or conflict of clients birthing at the same time. *
FEES FOR SERVICES // The fee for birth doula services is $800. A deposit of $150 is due when the contract is signed. The balance of $650 is due at 37 weeks gestation. *
